About Vanasamakhya

Rooted in the forest.
Led by people.

A collective journey towards stronger community institutions, sustainable livelihoods and shared stewardship of natural resources.

Who we are

A collective rooted
in community.

Vanasamakhya was founded in 2002 as a collective network of Village Forest Committees (VFCs / VSSs) within the Joint Forest Management framework.

We work alongside forest-dependent Scheduled Tribe communities to strengthen participatory governance, sustainable natural resource management and equitable rural development.

Our programmes in Mulugu district bring together orchard development, producer organisations, natural farming, women’s enterprise and practical skill development.

Our mission

Communities with a stronger voice.

Empower forest-dependent communities through participatory forest governance and equitable development, with particular attention to tribal populations, women and marginalised groups.

Our goal

Sustainable resources. Secure livelihoods.

Coordinate forest and livelihood management, strengthen Village Forest Committees and advance equitable participation and self-reliance.

How we work

Participation is our starting point.

01

Build local institutions

Strengthen VFCs and local Vanasamakhyas through capacity building, cooperation and inclusive representation.

02

Connect knowledge and resources

Bring together communities, government and civil society to resolve issues and support practical livelihood improvements.

03

Support long-term ownership

Combine local decision-making with training, technical support, convergence and market connections.
